How We Met...

We met at East Carolina University in a multicultural acting group called Thespians of Diversity .  I was a sophmore Chemistry Pre-med major (yeah, I know I have a BA in Public Relations with a minor in Science...long story) and Torrence was a Physical Therapy Major (yeah, he knows he has a BS in Recreation and Leisure Studies with minors in Economics, English and Music...long story). He was also the President of Thespians and I was just a lowly member.

While students at ECU we were associates and later became friends. We learned we had similar interests and often found ourselves singing at Ham’s for open mic night or unknowingly attending the same poetry reading. Strangely enough, I moved two blocks from Torrence and I didn’t even know it. Torrence graduated and remained in Greenville, (I even went to his graduation party).  I later graduated and moved to Raleigh.  He and I didn’t speak for a very long time. I don’t even think he knew I was in Raleigh.  One day I was going through some papers and happened to run across his phone number.  I called and we talked as if we talked daily.  Torrence made the commitment to travel back and forth to Raleigh and we began the lengthy process of our courtship:

                        Step 1:  Friends

                                                   Step 2:  "Talking"

                                                                                 Step 3:  Dating

                                                                                                           Step 4:  Exclusively Dating

                                                                                                                                                          Step 5:  Boyfriend/Girlfriend

(Torrence told me that he loved me and asked me to be his girlfriend on the evening of 9/2/06 on the waterfront in Washington, NC....)

Step 6:  Engaged (2/09/08)          Step 7:  You know what’s next... Save the Date...11.15.08

I will say through every “slow and careful” step the devil had a trap set,

but we knew Jesus always had a ram in the bush (read your word :)).

Shaundria is TRICE

My name is Nzingha...LOL...no it's Shaundria Latrice Faulkner.  Some people call me Shaundria.  Most of my family and friends call me Trice.  Shaundria is my "professional" name.

I was born 29 years ago on July 29th in Oxford, NC.  Yes, Oxford is on the map just 45 min north of Raleigh and Durham.  I actually grew up six miles from the Virginia line in Oak Hill - we call it Toler.

My parents are George and Gwen Yancey Faulkner.  My father works at the Worldwide Shipping Headquarters for Revlon and my mother has worked for Duke University for over 30 years.

My only sibling, Spencer Faulkner is married to Michelle Nichols-Faulkner they have given me the most wonderful nephew -
Elijah Josiah Faulkner and niece Elyssia Jillian Faulkner.

I was born-saved-and raised (I love how Torrence put that) at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Oxford, NC.  My husband and I are currently church shopping in the Raleigh area, but we still attend St. Matthew and St. Luke AME Zion Church (Wilmington, NC) when we are visiting family.

Well, as some of you may have guessed.  I attended Joe Toler-Oak Hill Elementary School, Northern Granville Middle School, and J. F. Webb High School c/o '97!  I also, attended East Carolina University where I earned a BA in Public Relations  (minor in Science) c/o '03.

I currently work for UNC-CH in the School of Information and Library Science as the Human Resources Manager.  I also tutor in my spare time (Math and Science) and oversee the communications for Y New G (Yancey New Generation).

Torrence is TORY

My name is Torrence Ryan Williams. Most of my family and friends call me Torrence, but if we met at ECU then you probably know me as Tory - (My mother hates that name).

I was born August 8, 1976 in Wilmington, NC. It was a great place to grow up. Wilmington offers the beach, fishing, theatre, and culture.

My mother is Janice Elaine Murray Williams. She retired from Corning Inc. I have one brother Jason Williams who resides in California. My father was Lawrence “Buttercup” Williams. He worked for Jacobi Hardware until he passed August 11, 1999. He was also the father of my sister Whitney Williams.

I was born-saved-and raised at St. Luke AME Zion Church, Wilmington NC. I was the director of the music ministry of York Memorial AME Zion church, Greenville, NC. Currently, my wife and I are church shopping in the Raleigh area, but we still attend St. Matthew and St. Luke AME Zion Church (Wilmington, NC) when we are visiting family.

I attended Mary Washington Howe and Sunset Elementary Schools. I later attended Williston Middle School and graduated with honors from New Hanover High School in 1994. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University. I majored in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a concentration in Management of Recreation Facilities and Services. I also attempted a multi-disciplinary minor in Economics, English and Music (completed everything except the last 3 music history classes –I chose to graduate – the minor was optional and I was extremely ready to go :)! Go Pirates!!)

During my latter years in College I began my own home business entitled The Williams Center. I later grew that venture into a 3000 sq ft special event/multi-purpose facility. I later closed the facility to explore additional interest in the Mental Health field. I am currently a Qualified Mental Health Professional. I also do extensive work with youth in the Pitt County School System.
